I was interested in the Charles Manley WW1 story. I am trying to trace my ancestor Edward Manley who was born and baptised in Hemyock February 1783, but resided and married (1808) in Southwark, London, where my family originate from.
Thank you so much Michael for posting this photograph, as I’ve just found the only picture I believe exists (online at least) of my Great, Great Uncle George James Hold who unfortunately was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme aged 21 on 5 Sept 1916 whilst serving with 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment. Having just watched 1917, it really brings it home as to what those poor souls went through, God bless them all.
Bless you Michael for taking the time to post this photograph, it’s really appreciated.
