A very old photograph pre 1900 of the Square showing the original water pump. The window of the coffee shop is on the left, the cottages that were burnt down in the centre, then A. Wides original shop and on the right Hides shop always known as Up Steps

 

Smithy in the Square

In the Square where Broadway is now. The Smithy on the right with a range of horsedrawn implements on display, from the left front of a horse rake, then 2 mowing machines and what would appear to be some drags beyond.

Looking at the Pump down the High St, early 1900’s

Looking down the High St. towards the Pump. The cottages have climbing roses against their walls.

To the left of the Pump there is farm machinery on display in front of the blacksmiths.

At the bottom of Cornhill with Mr. Halls saddlers shop, later to become the butcher’s shop. It is also worth noting the oil lam on the right of the picture.
