My ancestors the Coombes ( or Coombe) were also whetstone miners. The main family abode of the day I believe was Ponchydown. I’d have to check ( although Ancestry website is down), but I think there is a Rookley in our family tree by marriage. Most stopped whetstone mining long before John Rookley, due to the advances in technology.
