I’ve just come across this! Vernon Arthur New was my grandfather. He died in 1952 shortly after I was born to his only daughter, Diana, Joan.
He went to Africa, from what I understand, initially to South Africa (where he met my grandmother, his second wife) and then went to Rhodesia on the recommendation of the Big Man himself. They lived in Bulawayo and Later I believe in Salisbury. Arthur was mentioned in Despatches 3 times in Rhodesia and was much admired and respected by his men.
I would dearly love to find out more about my family. Sadly my mother, Diana, two years ago in 2021.
